The War in the Ukraine

It’s been almost a year and a half since Russia invaded Ukraine. The biggest dimensional change in the art of war has been the rapid adoption and effective use of drones of all type. WBIED.com has seen an increase in the use of waterborne drones as can be evidenced by the use of waterborne drones in attack roles with devastating effects. One can argue that the nexus of the new generation of waterborne drones are those that were developed (and are being improved) by Iran. So what we classified as Waterborne IED’s are now fully fledged remote operated waterborne devices. Full autonomy of these devices is just the next step away, again taking the cue from the Iranian development of a swarm attack – designed to overwhelm normal ship defense systems. A swarm waterborne drone attack has the ability to incapacitate any ship of the fleet.

Interesting times are ahead.

Waterborne drones have been used in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. According to a recent article by Newsweek, Ukraine has developed a new type of drone called “Sea Baby” that can operate on water. The drones have been used to attack Russian forces in the Black Sea, including the Russian assault vessel, Olengorskiy Gornyak, and Moscow’s SIG tanker 1. The drones are also being used to surveil Russian forces in the Black Sea and on the Crimean Peninsula 2.

The use of these drones is a significant development in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The drones are faster than traditional boats and can be used to attack targets that are difficult to reach by land 2. The drones have also been used to drop grenades and shells on Russian forces 3.

However, it is important to note that Russia has not prepared well enough to stop these drones, even as Ukraine has ramped up its drone boat usage 4. The use of these drones has given Ukraine an edge in the conflict, but it remains to be seen how effective they will be in the long run.

In conclusion, waterborne drones have become an important tool in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. They have been used to attack Russian forces in the Black Sea and on the Crimean Peninsula, as well as surveil Russian forces. While they have given Ukraine an edge in the conflict, it remains to be seen how effective they will be in the long run.
